Dr Jeffrey Ball | Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Little Tree Practice

MBBS (Hons), MSc (MedSci), BA (Hons) (Psyc), BSc (Biol), FRANZCP, Adv Cert Child & Adolec. Psych.

Note: Dr Ball is not accepting new referrals at the moment.

Dr Jeffrey Ball is a Consultant Psychiatrist with qualifications in child, adolescent, family, and adult psychiatry. His focus at Little Tree Practice is working therapeutically with adolescents and young adults around difficulties with mood, anxiety, sense of self, life transitions, interpersonal conflict, and/or past trauma. He works both individually and with families.

Dr Ball is informed by psychodynamic, attachment-based, family, cognitive, behavioural, dialectic, and other models of therapy in his approach to care. In addition to offering brief and longer-term psychotherapy, Dr Ball may recommend, prescribe, and monitor medication, as indicated. Where other professionals are involved in the young person’s care, Dr Ball can liaise with those external providers such as school counsellors and/or other involved health professionals, as appropriate.

Each case is assessed holistically and collaboratively to determine what approaches seem most suitable. In the case of children and adolescents, parents/guardians are asked to attend the initial assessment and planning process. Young adults are encouraged to invite a family member to attend their initial assessment, though this is not a requirement.

Dr Ball has studied internationally in Canada and Australia and has a background in psychology and clinical research prior to pursuing his career in medicine and psychiatry. He completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney and his postgraduate psychiatry training primarily in South Eastern and Central Sydney. He completed Generalist Psychiatry training and then Advanced Certification in Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatry in conjunction with the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and a Member of the Faculty of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry within the College.

In addition to working in private practice, Dr Ball has extensive experience working in the public health system in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has worked in various capacities in a number of mental health services across South Eastern and Central Sydney, including Sydney Children’s Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Rivendell Family Mental Health Service, Adolescent Outreach, and others.
